The Threat of Equality
There is a mass protest by Israelis in Israel right now. They are not protesting what Hamas has done. They are protesting what Netanyahu has done.
Here in America there is nationwide coverage across all major platforms on the six hostages who were just killed, but the 14,000 children Israel has killed in the past year are ghosts.
We know everything about the hostages, as we should: Their names, faces, ages, hometowns, family members, dreams and aspirations. Do you know one Palestinian child’s name? Do you know the backgrounds of one of the 40,000 Palestinian people massacred by their conquering oppressor?
The tens of thousand of innocent people that the Israel government has killed remain faceless and nameless. The few killed by the inevitable rebel force within the oppressed population are profiled across all major publications. These six are made to be our martyrs, with the overt implication that our lives are far more valuable than theirs. This is the modern propaganda of powerful nations.
The difference now, in this modern era, is that the connected world can see it all in real time, then coalesce against it, then change it.
Palestinians are not ghosts. They are us.
